'Tools of the Trade' 2018: Art, Architecture and Archaeology

A multidisciplinary Art Project designed and coordinated by Artists Leah Murphy and Susan Walsh.

Children from St.Maries of the Isle Primary School and Sundays Well Girls and Boys National School. In collaboration with Cork Public Museum, Cork Centre for Architectural Education CIT/UCC, Department of Applied Arts, CIT Crawford College of Art & Design.

In this project school children explored the creative and inquisitive processes of Art, Architecture and Archaeology. Emphasising the importance of sketchbook keeping and the art of drawing which within these and many other professions play a central role in recording, planning, communication and development of ideas. Beginning with a school based introductory workshop the children were introduced to the tools in everyday use at these places of work.

A series of creative workshops

The Children were encouraged to record all the site visits with small sketches and notes which were elaborated on at a later stage and continually referred to throughout the workshop series. In this series of workshops the children experienced a wide range of materials and artistic techniques including observational drawing, printing and large scale collaborative painting culminating in an Exhibition of the children's work at Cork City Hall Atrium.
